The North Atlantic Chapter (NAC) of SETAC invites all environmental professionals in the region to its 5th Annual Meeting and WET training short course. The 2-day short course will precede the 1� day annual meeting. Participants are welcome to attend either or both events.
ACCOMMODATIONS
The short course/annual meeting will be held on the campus of Boston University. Besides local hotels, a limited number of dormitory rooms at a rate of approximately $40 per night per person are available. For more information contact Cornelia Mueller at [email protected].
STUDENT ASSISTANT WANTED
Two student assistants will be given free registration to either the short course or the annual meeting. In exchange, the student must be available at all times to assist with registration and other duties as required. Interested students please contact Suzanne Lussier at [email protected].

U.S. EPA and SETAC FOUNDATION WET SHORT COURSE
This short course will address issues surrounding the science of whole effluent toxicity (WET) testing. On Day One, the course will provide a review of WET standards and regulatory requirements and discuss WET methods, endpoints, statistics, and QA/QC procedures. A substantial portion of Day Two will be dedicated to permit development with perspectives from EPA, industrial, municipal, and state leaders. The remainder of the program will provide an overview of Toxicity Reduction Evaluation (TRE) methodologies and case studies.

5th ANNUAL MEETING AND CALL FOR PAPERS
The 5th annual meeting will follow the WET short course and will feature plenary speakers from U.S. EPA, New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission, and the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority.
The Chapter is soliciting platform and poster papers dealing with in the fields of environmental chemistry and toxicology, biology, ecology, atmospheric sciences, health sciences, earth sciences, and environmental engineering.
Platform presentations will be 20 minutes in duration, including five minutes for questions and discussion. Posters will be presented on Friday evening at the Social Mixer.
Abstracts for posters and platform presentations are due by 10 May 1999. For more information regarding submittal of abstracts please contact Wayne Munns at [email protected].
STUDENT POSTER AND PLATFORM CONTEST
Montgomery & Associates, Inc. will sponsor a $75 award each to best student poster and platform presentation. For more information please contact Cheryl Montgomery at [email protected]. NOTE: National SETAC also awards $75 to each of our best student poster and platforms.
STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS
NAC will award four students with $150 each for travel. The award is to be used to defray accommodation, meal, registration and transportation costs. Requests are to be submitted by 25 May 1999. 1999 Annual Meeting
Instructions for Abstract Preparation and Submittal
NOTE: You do not have to be a member of SETAC or NAC to present a paper or poster.
1. We STRONGLY REQUEST abstracts to be submitted in electronic format (WordPerfect or Microsoft Word on 3.5-inch diskette) or by e-mail. Diskettes will be returned at the meeting.
2. Limit abstracts to 250 words or less (including authors and affiliations).
3. The first line of the abstract should contain the title in BOLD CAPITAL letters, followed by the author(s) and address(es). Underscore the presenter's name. Skip one line and begin the text (see example at right).
4. At the bottom of the page, type the name, address, telephone, fax, and e-mail numbers of the presenting author. Indicate preference for platform or poster, and willingness to convert from one format to another. Also indicate if you wish to compete for the student paper and poster awards*.

Selection of abstracts for presentation will be made by the Program Committee. Authors will be notified of acceptance by 1 June 1999.
*Qualifying Criteria for Student Awards 1. The individual must have been the principal investigator on the work. 2. The individual must have been an active student within the last year. 3. The individual must present his or her own work. 4. For a poster, the individual must attend the entire poster session and be available for questions.
